Nelson Pottery

I have always enjoyed the feel of earth in my hands. Growing up in Montana there was the sand box, gardening, then laboring in ditches laying utility lines. My real experience in the clay medium came over 25 years ago when I took a community education class and was immediately “hooked” on ceramics.

Formal education includes a BS degree from Brigham Young University and post graduate work at Utah State University. Working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, I developed a great admiration of Native American art to include pottery.

Currently, I am an adjunct instructor in ceramics at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio and at the Castroville Pottery Educational Facility in Castroville, Texas.  I am involved with several community organizations including the Southwest School of Art, SAMMinistries, and San Antonio Potters Guild

I work in the clay medium with an interest in both RAKU and functional pottery using hand building and wheel thrown methods. Other mediums enjoyed include wood carving and paper-casting.

Please feel free to contact me at my studio in San Antonio or email to set up an appointment time. nelsonpottery@sbcglobal.net
